Tver is one of the oldest Russian cities on the banks of the great Russian river Volga. It was founded in the 12th century from some craft-trade settlements at the mouth of the river Tvertza. In the course of history Tver has been playing an important role in economy and policy of Russia.
Now Tver is one of largest industrial and cultural centers of the country. There are textile, chemical, printing and publishing, machine-building enterprises.
Cultural life of Tver is also diverse: theaters, Philharmonic society, museums, cinemas, circus, architectural monuments such as Travel Palace of Catherine the Great, Church of Ascension, Noble Society House, etc.
